About Milk Bar
Milk Bar is a sweet (and occasionally savory) shop that's been quietly shaking up the dessert scene since 2008. Bon Appetit magazine called us "one of the most exciting bakeries in the country." But you can literally just call us Milk Bar. Founded by James Beard award-winning pastry chef Christina Tosi, Milk Bar is known for inventing: the Compost Cookie®, layer cakes with unfrosted sides, Cereal Milk™ Soft Serve, Milk Bar Pie the first flip phone and shoulder pads (Ok, technically those last two weren't us. Snag some standout treats and skip off to your next adventure.

American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Los Angeles is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Overrated, overpriced, and overhyped. Tried the birthday cake slice, which was extremely dry, and it was $12 for ONE slice of shitty cake. The cashier was pretty friendly, but she was wearing a mask for some reason. The dining area looks like a hospital kitchen.

Everytime we are in LA we have to make a trip here because we don’t have a Milk Bar back home. I also feel like the cereal milk soft serve here tastes better than the Las Vegas location, but maybe that’s just me. It’s too bad they don’t sell the cookie ingredients in a bottle there as that was one of our gift staples, but they still had a lot of stuff for us to bring back home.

Place had good food. The brownie was amazing. Fast and friendly service. No public restroom, but it had its own small parking lot.

Visited Milk Bar Melrose today, and it truly lives up to its reputation as a go-to spot for indulgent sweet treats. While it’s known for desserts, I personally loved their flavored lattes — a really nice twist that stands out. They’ve created a fun “sweet spot” (pun intended!) with plenty of options that feel both nostalgic and creative. Many of the treats remind you of cravings we’ve all put together at home — like their Cereal Milk with Crumbs, milkshakes, and soft-serve served in a cup, all elevated in a unique way. The location is convenient with ample parking and a restroom available for customers, which is always a plus. Great place to bring family — there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area — go explore and treat yourself!
